    July 4th, 2023

I’ve had a look at our hotel for tonight. Looks amazing. I’m hoping to convince Caleb that we don’t need to come back to current room after breakfast (as we have been doing so he can nap before we start walking). I would love to get an earlier start on this long day. Fingers crossed.

Logrono is just another big town with lots of shops and plenty of people on the streets. I had intended to buy another USB cord at the Apple store last night, but the line was so long it wasn’t worth the wait.

Cafe Pato (Duck) serves a great breakfast. Coffee and OJ excellent. We both had toastie sandwiches and Caleb had an apple cream pastry as well. We’re not starving.

No surprise, Caleb wants a nap. I’m staying in cafe for another coffee; sent him back to hotel for a quick cat nap. Looks like another 9ish start.

Left at 9:10, arrived hotel 6:42 pm. 18.4 miles. Someone needs to stop me from torturing poor Caleb. He has bandages everywhere☹️. Tender feet on a trip like this can be difficult at best. However, he only complains a bit and then moves on.

At .58 miles we stopped so Caleb could have an Oreo milkshake and a sandwich. I had an orange juice. It’s going to be a long day.

The fruits and vegetables look very tempting

The countryside was mostly vineyards, and manufacturing. Not sure why this giant bull is in the middle of nowhere, but he caught our attention. Couldn’t find a sign explaining his significance.

    Winery not open. Keep walking

    Don Jacobo

We have passed several female travelers on their own, most heavily laden with gear. I would not attempt this walk alone, nor with 40 lbs. on my back.

Lunch at a tiny family owned restaurant. Quick chat with young girls, one from Washington DC and other from Pasadena, CA. They are skipping a few of the normal stopping places along the route in order to finish in 30 days.

Most people we see are staying more than one night in certain places. They are surprised to hear we are moving every night. I think they are on to something.

    Paella for Caleb
Grilled onion and goat cheese empanada for me

Did I mention how good an ice cold beer is? It’s that or orange Fanta. So satisfying.

Caleb as the invisible man. He thought covering his face would help . I have my doubts. Amusing for me though.

    Keeping fit

Dinner was at a restaurant down the street. Saw the priest from Georgia. We had also seen him earlier when we stopped for a drink. He was on his own earlier today, as his traveling companion from Colombia had opted for a bus so he could join him for dinner. Lightweight!

Little friend to greet us on the path. Very friendly and looking for someone to pet him.

In bed by 10, can hardly keep my eyes open. Awake at 3:30 am so might as well finish the post.

I’ve pulled out all the bandages and silicone toe wrappers I’ve got. We have to make sure Caleb can walk as comfortably as possible. I feel like a mobile pharmacy😎
