    July 12th, 2023

Depart Fromista at 8:10. Arrived Carrion de Los Condes at 1:55. 11.9 miles.

Wow. What a great day. Not only was it short, but there were no hills.

Items lost by Caleb so far: sunglasses, shorts, tee shirt, luggage lock. I replaced sunglasses as they are a necessity. Update on the lock – I had Caleb unpack his suitcase in the off chance the lock was in there. It was.

Items lost by Anna Marie so far: about 7 lbs. Oh to be the adult!

What we have happily found: the never ending kindness of strangers, the inspiring and beautiful countryside, wildflowers in particular, inner peace (we are the embodiment of no worries), each other’s strange sense of humor, a renewed interest in conversation, an appreciation for clean streets and tidy stores regardless of how large or small, and many more lovely things. Clearly we have gained more than we have lost.

    Always time for a swing

    Tractor coming, give way

These tractors are massive and when they’re coming down the road, they do not try very hard to avoid you. One came VERY close to me yesterday and I was standing in a ditch. Scary.

On the way to Carrion de Los Condes

Entrance to an albergue. Looked nice
    More sunflowers. They’re back!

    And just a few flowers

    Poppies everywhere on the roadside
One of the many flowered balconies

As we entered town, searching for our hotel, we found an open travel store. Got a new walking stick for Caleb, a lightweight long sleeve shirt for me with UV 40 protection and hand lotion.

Wouldn’t be a day on the Camino without a church .

You’ll see in the photo below how dark I’ve gotten – ok, no critics here – this is straight out of the shower and while I am not terribly tired, I do look it. Funny – I don’t even care. I am happy.

The long sleeve shirt because even with sunscreen, my arms could be mistaken for tree bark. There’s no hope for my legs, I only brought shorts, so more tree bark!

I’m headed back into town before dinner as the stores all look so inviting. I’m hoping they are open by the time I get out there.

It’s still hot so will see how long I last.

Saw a sign for a monastery so headed there instead of the shops. Best of intentions were stymied due to a truck blocking the narrow road so that no cars or humans could get through. Had to pass on the monastery. Shops were cute but luggage weight does not allow major purchases. Just looking👀

Always nice to see a soccer net and basketball hoop

Not sure if you can tell, but some lovely weeping willows along the road to the monastery (that I didn’t get to)

The plaza is packed tonight. Many locals and pilgrims out and about. So festive.

I end today grateful that I have the luxury of making a trip like this and sharing it with a kind and considerate person.

I also had a healthy pour of bourbon after dinner. The good life 😎
