    June 13th, 2026

Left at 7:30, arrived hotel in Arzua 5:30 pm. 18.1 miles. the tour company switched hotels for this day. Bad news, it was a mile further than the original. Good news, a mile less for tomorrow.

This was our longest day for the trip, and we felt every mile of it. In addition to being long, the terrain was hilly and pretty much non-stop. Our feet hurt, but not as much as our thighs and hamstrings. A good nights rest is in our future.

    Can’t get away from sports
    The outfits!

    Still smiling at 6 miles

The scenery has been quite diverse. As we get closer to Santiago de compostela there is a real mix of woods and small towns with significant population.

It makes for a confusing journey because just when you’re relaxing in the woods (despite the hills), you’re bombarded by city life with loud vehicles.

    Lunch was HUGE and delicious
    Love all the murals
    So many roses
Eucalyptus leaves make for fresh scent through the woods. Lovely.
Sweat marks from backpack. It’s toasty out here.

When we are walking it tends to be a bit monotonous. Luckily, we both have access to music along the way. I find it comforting to listen to music I’ve saved over the years. Makes for a pleasant and nostalgic time.

We stopped for a prayer and candle lighting at a tiny church. I like to pray for loved ones, living and deceased. While I do that anyway, it’s extra special to do so on the Camino.

Parroquia de San Zulian du Camino

It was a tiny church outside Palas de Reis and very peaceful.

The countryside in all its glory

We arrived at our hotel completely spent. Shower and a long nap. Then out for a lovely dinner – lasagna for Caleb, fish and chips for me. All very satisfactory.

Third day done, two more to go.

    Good night.
