    June 13th, 2025

Left O Cadavo at 8:40 am. Arrived Lugo 6 pm. 19.77 miles.

Our expectation today is that we would arrive quite late at our destination of Lugo. We stopped for a coffee fairly early only to find that there are no places for food until Lugo. So at 10:45 am we had lunch. Take it while you can get it.

    Narrow path indeed

We have left most of the people we shared the road with and enjoyed pleasant conversation. They all stopped 8 miles before Lugo and we kept going.

No idea why I took this pic

We are perfectly happy on our own but did love seeing familiar faces when stopping at a cafe. These are some friends that stopped at the hostel before Lugo.

    87 yr old Spaniard
    Neil and Diane, Wolverhampton England

As it happens , we like the solitude but these kind people in particular have made the journey even more enjoyable.

    Leaving our troubles behind
    Not many white horses

Despite the long miles, we were doing just fine til my left foot cramped and Caleb had sharp pain in his feet. We are getting stronger, but we also are stretching ourselves each day and it’s catching up. So for the last several miles, we stopped quite a bit and had a quick rest til we were ready to move on. That delayed our arrival but was the best solution for us.

    Attempted topiary
    Tree farms—we think
    More bales of hay

When we finally could see Lugo, our first thought was – I hope our hotel isn’t way up in the hills.

    Yes — up there

Of course it was up in the hills. We climbed and climbed. Luckily, we were rewarded with the nicest rooms we’ve had so far.

We dined on a shared salad, monkfish and squid for Caleb, bluefin tuna for me and shared cheesecake with fresh berries.

Blurry from the lights but you get the idea

Tomorrow, we plan a late start to take advantage of our luxurious rooms.

There is plenty of history about Lugo and I may get to that tomorrow, but honestly, I just need to close my eyes.

    Good night.
