Left Berducedo at 9:40 am. Arrived Grandas de Salime at 5:50 pm. Miles walked 13.78.

More of the same today. Feeling a bit like a billy goat.

I need to correct a few translation errors on my part – locals term for this route is “broken knees” not legs, as I said yesterday. This, of course makes more sense, as the steep ups and downs take a toll on your knees. Also, when I thought our driver yesterday said we’d see waterfalls, it was actually a dam she was trying to explain. Photos to follow. Spoiler alert – if you suffer from vertigo as I do, you may get dizzy.

We had a strange food day. It’s interesting that the more tired you get, the less hungry you get. I know we need to keep our energy up to continue the level of exercise, but we can’t seem to muster the energy to eat much. We are, however, drinking lots of liquids. Case in point, we had a late lunch around 4, accompanied by the biggest bottle of water I’ve seen.

We did take a number of brief rests today. The temperature was mid 80s for most of the day and very little shade to protect us from the heat. We’re both very sunburned despite sunscreen.

We can see where we’re headed, but the trail is way right of there and zig zags about 7 miles down the mountain. As the crow flies, it’s probably 2 miles!

Lovely view of the river. We do get to the river level in a couple of hours.

It’s an amazing structure. We spent a good while just watching the river. Very calm and peaceful. But I imagine it’s not always so calm.

From the dam we still had another 4-5 miles so we stopped at the only place with food – our late lunch. I had a mixed salad (very satisfying). Caleb opted for an interesting concoction of cream cheese, prosciutto and jam on toast, followed by white chocolate ice cream. It was enough to get us through the day so no dinner tonight. Just staying in to rest.

Tomorrow is another long day but I don’t have the heart to check the trail condition. It’ll wait.

Last photo is the ceiling of the bar where we checked in for our hotel which is a few doors away.

Good night.
