Depart Mansilla de las Mulas at 8:50. Arrived hotel in Leon 2:40. 12.7 miles.
I’ve been thinking about my comments yesterday about the loud Australians and Americans. They are at a different place in their lives than me. I need to remember that, so I’ve let it go. No judging.
Back to the name of the town “of the mules” actually refers to the cattle markets. In the 12/13 century, it was one of the greatest market places in the region.
Next week looks fun. We missed this by a week, but moving on…

Leon is a BIG city compared to where we’ve been. The center reminds me a bit of Paris with its cafes and stores with lovely gifts! I bought a new hat. Let’s see how long it lasts.
I’m off to the cathedral. Caleb is watching videos. I don’t blame him. I do love a cathedral even though they are all quite similar. But this is pretty spectacular. It’s early gothic, built between 13 and 14 century. Lack of money and numerous parts that collapsed delayed its completion til early 19th century.

I’ve been to two bars while Caleb was resting. One was the Paris Hotel & Spa for a quick screwdriver before the cathedral. Second was after cathedral to toast my late father in law, whose birthday is today.

Time to head back to hotel and collect Caleb for dinner at Taco Bell (for him). I’m saving myself for tapas after.
Quick interjection – I have a great room today, and a hair dryer which I haven’t had for probably 10 days…such luxury. I’m fluffing the hair!
The city center is lively and fun. No tapas for me, but I did get a delicious vanilla gelato. Time for a little Netflix, then bed.
Caleb and I agree we could live in Leon for at least a year.
