Depart Calzadilla de la Cuesta 8:40. Arrive Sagahun 3:00 pm. 13.6 miles.
We started out badly by going in a circle and wound up back at our hotel, as we were told to follow the yellow arrows. Sadly, those arrows led to the local market, not the Camino. The second time, the hotel manager gave us better directions. “Turn left at the tractor, cross the road, then follow the yellow arrows.” Sheesh. Why didn’t he say that the first time?
We had a good laugh, and made up time by jogging a good part of the morning. Caleb even carried my backpack for about 4 miles. What a great kid! Made my jogging so much easier. He thinks he’s gaining muscle; I didn’t disagree because , after all, he was carrying my backpack.
More countryside with our cheery friends – sunflowers.

Color of the day – yellow

Fun with wall painting

One of the villages along the way, Teradillos de Los Templarios, once belonged to the Order of the Knights Templar. They were founded after the first crusades in 1119, and the they were protectors of the pilgrims on the Camino. There’s lots of history about them. I’ve included a link below if you’re interested.

Here’s a guy you’d like to meet

This albergue looked really nice with plenty of gardens and tables. My photo doesn’t capture how lovely it looked, unfortunately.

After lunch we’re always a little sluggish. The wind compounded this and made our afternoon feel longer than it actually was. Walking into the wind is not fun. However, it did help with the heat as the “breeze” was quite bracing.
Windy— I tried to load a video, but once again, technology is not my friend.
I just love how tidy the buildings look.

Thought for the day – I recently heard a saying – “the happiest people are the givers, not the takers”. I’m confused because I don’t know what I’ve given recently, but I’ve been on the receiving end of endless kindness, and I’m pretty darn happy.
I just had a thought – receiving is different than taking.
Ponder that for a moment.
More tomorrow.

Dear philosopher A M. It’s so true. One is grateful, thankful, polite.
