July 13, day 19

Depart Carrion de Los Condes at 8:30. Arrived Calzadilla de la Cuesta at 12:28. 10.6 miles.

As we arrived so early, we had lunch before checking into hotel. There was no place to stop for lunch on the way here, which we knew in advance, but we had been told there was a food truck half way. We stocked up on snacks at a gas station just outside of Carrion de Los Condes in case of need. Gas stations in Spain are just like US – plenty of snacks from which to choose.

Leaving town and just before monastery-

Just as well I wasn’t expecting monks. The monastery has been converted to a 4 star hotel. Outside still impressive though

And now for the corn fields

This was the only possible food source on todays walk. It was closed. The food truck we’d been told about never materialized. Good thing we had our snacks.

An irrigation system at work. Fun to watch for a minute.

Since we made pretty good time today and there was not much change in scenery, I played my own little game of – find the color purple in all its varying shades.

We have rooms on the second floor. There’s a cool atrium, and my room has a nice view of the sunflower fields in the distance. Very peaceful. I have no idea how I changed the font.

My shoes had so much dust (visualize Pigpen from Charlie Brown comics) from the road they really needed a wash. Decided to dry them on the ledge outside my window. I’ve got them tied to my walking stick inside the room. Pretty proud of myself for thinking of this😎

Just call me MacGyver. I hope I don’t lose them when I open the window.

We had such a big lunch that dinner was quick and tasty, but no dessert. Have retired to our rooms to watch a movie. I expect Caleb’s viewing choice will be different than mine.

  1. I wonder if the hotel is part of that whole series of monasteries and castles that were turned into a route all through Spain and there’s a number of different regions. Oh well I’m sure you’re not gonna walk back and ask them. Very smart of you MacGyver to think about how to keep your sneaker safe.
