July 6, day 12

On to Belorado. Looks like it might be a cute little town.

Depart 9:15, arrived hotel 4:20 pm. 14.6 miles

Breakfast served by a nun who was quite chatty. She was very curious about us and I gladly gave her the details. She was surprised that we were doing the entire Camino.

Sadly, we do not have the energy to sightsee when we get to each stop. I look at pictures of places we might go to, then opt for a nap instead. No argument from Caleb. He is the nap king.

We lucked out this morning by following a young group of travelers. (Not the ones from the hotel). Directly in front of us were three adorable young ladies which made the walk more enjoyable for Caleb. I was greatly amused at how quickly he was walking to keep up. Ahhh youth.

The youngsters

We abandoned them about 5 miles out as they stopped for an early lunch. But we made great time for those 5 miles!

Here’s what we got the next few miles

I know – more churches. It is at pilgrimage after all🥴
Love the little person out of flower pots
It’s a long road
Wildflowers with sunflowers not ready to bloom in background
I’m going to be a sunflower soon

Kitties in the garden. I caught one before they all ran away

We continued to nearly mile 8. Caleb navigated us to what can only be described as a truck stop. Food was hearty and inexpensive. Another win for the White-Kolarov team. Had a nice talk with a family from France – husband, wife and two young girls. The parents have done a part of the Camino each year for a few years. This is first time to bring the girls.

This little guy followed us down the street til his owner yelled, “Leo, donde vas?” (Leo, where are you going?). He looked kind of sad and turned back home.

The hotel is very quaint. We each have a large room so no complaints. They have a tiny bar so I was looking forward to a cocktail after my shower. Sadly, it closed before I could get a drink. Never mind, wine with dinner as usual will be perfect.

Terry asked me tonight how we are doing mentally. I’m happy to report we are well. I was a bit concerned about what Caleb would be experiencing, but so far he’s amazing. I have the luxury of being able to zone out pretty easily, so the potential monotony of a long walk is not a problem for me. Hope it stays this way for us both.

How did I miss these on the way to dinner? Got it on the way back to hotel.

One more thing…the general feeling about wine and children is that youngsters should experience it. I’m so proud of Caleb. Tonight when I said the wine with dinner (half a carafe for me) was the best I’d had so far, he said he’d like to try it. Once again, he would not have any until I asked if it was ok. Of course, the answer was yes. The server brought another carafe. We both tasted and donated the rest to another table.

I think Caleb is a lot like his grandad. Not a rule breaker. I love that.
