July 1, day 7

I’m seeing a pattern.

7:50 drop luggage at reception, breakfast, nap for Caleb, depart 9:30.

Should be an easy 13.5 miles today and looks pretty level. Will report later🥾🥾

Later – mixed terrain, plenty of uphill and downhill. Mileage different than advertised as our hotel way past town entry☹️. We arrived st 4:35. Total 15.31 miles.

Punta de la Reina was a quaint town. Cute little shops and beautiful clustered houses. Also stopped for a quick prayer for our journey.

Doors along the way

Sounds we hear over the silence –

Water bottle clanging against backpack, gravel crunching under our feet, distant mooing of cows, church bells ringing, crickets and cheery birds singing their song. Wind blowing in our faces.

I feel my worry lines fading away. Who knew that wind is natural Botox?

We got vineyards, wheat, and more sunflowers today.

The smiley face was already on flower. We did not do that

Lots of arches

Crazy cactus

Tunnel graffiti. Note the yellow arrow (directions for pilgrims)…nice

Kind local puts out snacks and water for pilgrims. Caleb left a nice tip. The man was extremely pleasant and told us there was a very good water fountain in Lorca, 1 km away. He was right. Water was cool and refreshing. We filled our water bottles.

Just what we needed
Our way into town

400 feet from our hotel we got chastised by police when we inadvertently walked onto a small round about trying to get on the right street. Policeman was quite insistent that we shouldn’t be there and I agreed. However, he was fairly unpleasant so I switched to English and that seemed to make it ok that we were stupid tourists. Sheesh!

Lucked out at this hotel. They have a laundry room!! So excited to have clean clothes.

Dinner tonight. Starters plus dessert, but here’s the main – duck confit for Caleb and pork tenderloin for me

Duck confit
Pork tenderloin

We couldn’t finish our meal. Also comes with half a carafe of wine every dinner we’ve had so far. I donate most of it (ok – half) to another table so I’m making friends everywhere we go😁

  1. A very intereesting day with lots of nice photos. How great was that kind man setting out food and drink for all the pilgrims? And the dinner looks delicious, both of them!
