June 29, day 5

Zubiri to Pamplona. 14.56 miles. Left at 10, arrived 5:50 pm

A variety of walking surfaces. Nothing too bad but we switched to hiking shoes today vs our walking shoes. So for me, it was easy going (all relative based on two previous tough days, of course) and for Caleb not as easy. He has tender feet!

Horses and industry
Salt pond?
Down the rabbit hole
Lovely town in distance
Poppies
Thistle?
Wild flowers

Got to show the flowers. There are so many. I want to post more but space dictates me having to hold back. All the houses in the little towns are flower mad. Love it.

Noisy geese

Horse pooping station. Ripe!

Lunch in Zuriain

Cool metal sculpture
Beer and potato frittata for me, ham & cheese and a coke for Caleb

We came to the end of a road and no obvious marker. Enter Martin from Hungary. A university student on his own. He got us on the right path.

Selfie skills not great!

Stopped at an abbey for a stamp in our Camino passport. Got the stamp but could not enter abbey. Found a little church later. Beer not in church; that’s in Pamplona.

Building in the square

Dinner at a dive bar for pinchos (tapas). Pretty good. Snacking on a chocolate/banana Clif bar in my room for dessert.

Hoping for an early night as we have a mountainous climb up and down tomorrow, and need the rest. We’ve already decided if it looks too overwhelming a climb, we’re hopping a bus to next town. Will advise tomorrow 🙂

  1. You’re doing great! Beautiful country and how fun to meet others on the journey. What an experience for Caleb. Hopefully his tender feet get toughened up!
